I am your Ocean

Dear People of this Earth,

I am your Ocean and I was here before your cities rose, your roads were built, and you took your first breath with the oxygen that I provide, you swim among my currents, dance within my tides, surf between my waves, and call me Beautiful.

And that is what I am, I am your Ocean, The Ocean that gave your life.

The truth is I am struggling, I am hurting , I am dying .The plastic pollutes my waters and I am warming by each day that passes, The life and ecosystems you explore beneath my waves is dying and the coral you see is bleaching becoming a fragment of destruction ,and the fish and all the creatures I hold within myself I feel their pain also ,I feel all that pain.

And I need you to care, to protect, to return to your responsibility of stewardship to look after me after I give you everything I have, I give you everything you need, and I need care in return it is all I ask of you. You don’t need the ocean to feel important, until it starts affecting what you depend on. I feed you. I give you the oxygen you breath, I give you Life.And all of that is under pressure, right now. This is not about saving something distant.It is about protecting the systems that keep your life stable, because when those systems start to fail, you won’t be able to look away anymore.

And I see you, I see those who care for me I see the ones that that choose for the better, the ones that educate themselves, educate others ,From beach cleanups to recycling .I see it all, I feel it all and I am grateful to you for that effort.

I am not asking for perfection. I am asking for change, because I remember what I was before the harm and I still carry what I could be again.

I am not angry I am asking, I am waiting for you to listen.
